When we got to the hotel, it was like we got thrust out of a vacuum of energy. There were hundreds of mostly Asian people, lined up behind police barricades. There was so much energy; both supporters (mostly) of President Chin and protesters were almost wildly expressing themselves. The President himself surprised his American security attaches and quickly departed his vehicle and went out to wave and acknowledge those that came to greet him. He had a quite joyous expression on his face and seemed to make a special effort to face as many directions he could, so the people could see him. For the brief minute or so this occurred the President "broke away " from some before hand protocol regarding his layover in San Francisco.

The next day i anxiously looked forward to reading about this event in the San Francisco Chronicle. Maybe we would be in the pictures they would include. Definitely had to be a front-page story. Well, you know what I found? Nothing! Not even a back page story. I went to other papers too, nothing there either. Finally i was able to find some coverage in Asian papers with limited distribution.
